Our tour with Giulio was wonderful. He was very good at advising both the best angles, places to take shots and the appropriate settings for my camera. As a very inexperienced photographer, I learnt a lot. The tour also offered a wealth of interesting information about Rome's history. We visited both well known sites and some lesser known gems. My husband, a non photographer, came on the tour and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Highly recommended.

The best time we have ever had on a tour, bar none. We were a group of four, but only one actively participating in the photography instruction part of the tour. Giulio made it fun, exciting and great for all four us. His pre-tour communications by email made the whole process seamless. He delivered a perfect blend of history and anecdotes about each landmark visited. His talent as a photographer is only surpassed by his charm, humor and amazing spirt with which he conducts his tour. If you are lucky enough to secure a tour with him, go for it! Highly recommended. We will be booking again next time in Rome.

I booked both the Rome by day and Rome by night tour with Giulio. Both are fantastic. Booking was easy. Giulio's web site lets you pick the date you are interested in and then once booked sends you a confirmation email. A few days before your tour Giulio provides an email with information on where to meet and asks questions about your photography skills, type of gear you will be bringing and what you are hoping to see. Giulio is very responsive, promptly replying to emails and even phone calls. Giulio knows Rome inside and out. The best part was in addition to photographing the well known parts, coliseum, Pantheon he takes you to less famous but just as beautiful areas that are not crowded letting you take great photos. Giulio is a professional photographer that is able to impart knowledge and skills if that is what you are looking for. However, his focus is on your experience and is content to let you have your best moment as well. If you are looking for a guide to take you around Rome so that you can take great pictures Giulio and Rome Photo Fun Tours is a great value and worth your investment.

I spent 10 wonderful days in Rome seeing the ruins and museums and taking in the scene. I did a lot of fun things, but hands down, the BEST experience was the photo tour I took with Giulio.

He met me promptly at the designated time and instantly put me at ease. He’s a smart, funny, affable guy who really knows his way around photography. From the beginning, he helped identify great shots and worked on composition with me. I used my iPhone 14 Pro Max and am thrilled with the results. I can tell a noticeable difference between the photos I took pre-tour from those I took during and after.

But you’re not just getting expert photography help. Giulio was the best tour guide among the several I hired during my trip. His deep knowledge of all eras of Roman history will impress and enlighten you. And his easy conversational style, excellent English and sense of humor were the icing on the cake.

I don’t usually gush in reviews, but I’m gushing now. Do yourself a favor and book one (or more!) of Giulio’s tours - it’s worth every euro and then some. You will not regret it!

My husband and I like to pretend we are amateur photographers (in truth, we usually leave our DSLRs on automatic the whole time…). Giulio was a fantastic guide. He gave us tips we had never considered before and we were able to get some incredible pictures. He also gave us some Roman history along the way. I’d highly recommend anyone to take a tour with him!

Giulio D'Ercole makes this a great tour. He has an extensive knowledge of photography, an intimate relationship with Rome and the ability to get you to the place where you take the great shots. He knows the history but puts the emphasis on a great visual experience. I took the
night tour with him also and combined I have a great portfolio of Rome. Really money well spent.

I booked the Rome by Day photo tour with Giulio for the morning after my arrival in Rome, and it was a wonderful experience and a great introduction to the city. Giulio is a fantastic guide and photographer. I'd only consider myself an amateur photographer, so whatever your level of proficiency you can be assured Giulio will help you capture some unique and extraordinary shots. He was always happy to offer suggestions and even critique photos on my camera in real-time to apply his expertise and help improve the shot before moving on. He has a really good eye!

The entire tour was a perfect balance of being well-structured (to cover as much ground as possible) and free-wheeling (to allow time to experiment with shots or to accommodate finding places, scenes, or objects that suit your own interests and tastes). Whether it's street photography, art, architecture, you just name it and Giulio will take you on a whirlwind tour of places both famous and obscure. You will see the tourist spots and attractions, and you'll see hidden courtyards and unassuming church interiors that you might otherwise have passed right by. He will also make you branch out and experiment with shots or techniques you may not otherwise be proficient with, which was nice. I took a really great shot of a scene I never would have thought to photograph on my own.

While this is, first and foremost, a photography tour, Giulio really did turn it into much more than that. As I mentioned it, it was a great introduction to the city. As you walk through the city and photograph its buildings, structures, landmarks, fountains, and sculptures, etc., Giulio provides historic background, trivia, critical interpretations--just a fountain of information to deepen your appreciation for the city as you walk through it. As a native of Rome he even reminisces about growing up in the city and how it has or hasn't changed, which was fascinating as well. I mention this specifically in the context of bringing a non-photographing partner. I brought a friend along and he spent the rest of the trip raving about this tour. So if you're wondering whether it's worth buying the option for bringing a non-photographing friend, I would say absolutely, yes! Even as just a walking tour of the city, it's a tremendous value and wonderful experience. Having so many fantastic shots I couldn't or wouldn't have captured on my own to remember it by makes it even better.

You’re being coached by a Roman who can not only walk you to the best photo spots in Rome with his eyes closed, but because he’s a professional photographer with multi-layered knowledge and experience in different cultures and continents, he will also effortlessly guide you with your composition and camera settings. Very warm, friendly, kind, and funny. In perfect English, he gives you technical tips, gently and patiently repeating them until they sink in your head. He has loads of stories to tell, not only about the history of the sites, but pretty much else under the sun, including how to marinate rabbit and why you have to jaywalk with him on Rome’s busy streets. :) What’s not to enjoy?

When I first visited Rome almost two decades ago, I came home with lousy shots from my point-and-shoot. On this second visit, I meant to come home with the best shots possible. I’ve been teaching myself photography for five years in an effort to come up with publishable photos to include in the travel books I’m writing. Although I had a grasp of how the exposure triangle works, I’d never had the benefit of working with a pro. I’d mostly been shooting in either Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority mode, going Manual only occasionally. Giulio had me shooting in purely Manual mode, and after a couple of hours, I started feeling more confident with it.

I took three tours: Rome by Night, Rome by Day, and Churches, Angels and Art, meaning I had the benefit of Giulio’s coaching for at least twelve hours, resulting in a treasure folder of photos. I have been shooting more in Manual mode ever since. Now there’s a thick line that divides my photo files: BG and AG – Before Giulio and After Giulio. You can bet the AGs are superior to the BGs.

The booking procedure was easy; Giulio responded to my emails promptly and clearly, and he accommodated some schedule changes I needed to make. Just keep in mind that the sites you are able to cover depends largely on your skill and energy level.

Giulio is an excellent teacher, patient and professional. I highly recommend his tours. I did the early morning Rome by Day, Beauty and History Photo Tour, and was impressed right away by Giulio’s dedication and communication skills. He responded to my emails as soon as he was awake, answered all of my questions about how to prepare for the tour, gave me detailed instructions on where and when to meet him, and showed up on time (before me!) despite his grueling schedule. We had beautiful weather and light for our session, and Giulio not only helped me to learn to make the best use of my new camera and to take some great photos, he also filled me in on the history of the areas we visited. I’m looking forward to returning to Rome so I can do more of his tours!

Giulio goes the extra mile to fulfill all the wishes one may have on this tour and knows the right spots. The tour is very entertaining and the time flies. The balance between the explanations about the history and teaching more in-depth knowledge about how to take the best pictures is perfect.
